# Supported Markdown features The native parser covers the most common GFM constructs: ATX headings (# Heading through ###### Heading) Fenced code blocks (``` and ~~~), with language and filename info strings Blockquotes (>), including block content (lists, code, tables) inside them Bullet and ordered lists, including custom ordered-list start numbers (5. item →
) Pipe tables with per-column alignment Strikethrough (~~text~~) Emphasis and strong (*em*, **strong**, ***both***, and the underscore variants) Inline code spans (`code` and ``code``) Inline links and images, plus the linked-image form [![alt](img)](target) Autolinks Hard line breaks (two trailing spaces, or a trailing backslash) Backslash escapes HTML5 character references DokuWiki media parameters work in the Markdown image slot too, e.g. ![alt](image.png?200x100&right), and ?left/?right/?center alignment keywords are available. Edit What is not supported A number of Markdown/GFM features are intentionally left out, mostly because DokuWiki is limited by its single-pass parser: Setext headings (underlined with = or -) Inline formatting inside headings (would require a larger renderer change) Task lists (- [ ]) → better suited to a plugin GitHub emoji shortcodes () → may be added later Raw HTML pass-through → not supported in any syntax for security reasons Various obscure CommonMark edge cases (asymmetric delimiter runs, lazy continuation, certain indented-code interactions, etc.) A full list of skipped spec cases with explanations lives in the test suite.
